Chelsea Johnson (She/her)

I am a systemic, dynamic, and authentic clinician with over a decade of experience providing psychotherapy to folks identifying as LGBQTIA+. I am feminist, intersectionally-minded, and actively anti-rascist. I bring a non-cis-normative and not-hetero-normative lens to my work. To me, our attachments and our relationship constellations are where we may feel most troubled in our lives, and also where we actualize our highest selves. I am a very active and directive therapist, will use curse words, will laugh with you, and I won't sit behind a notepad. I'm a lesbian-identified provider and practice within the standards of care set by WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) and ALGBTIC (Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues in Counseling). I am an active member of WPATH and a Clinical Fellow Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).

I believe in social justice and grassroots activism. Being an affirming provider in the center of a southern state, I believe in advocacy in and out of my office. I founded Horizons Marriage & Family Therapy with the vision of creating an LGBTQIA+-community resource for mental health with trained, experienced providers in this area of practice. I believe patients should be able to trust their therapist to understand the complexity and beauty of their experiences, and feel safe in the therapy space without fear of re-experiencing past traumas and discrimination. This continues to be my mission every day.
